Wireless and Optical Communications
(WOC 2007

WOC 2007 will be a major forum for scientists, engineers, and practitioners throughout the world to present their latest research, results, ideas, developments, and applications in all areas of telecommunications systems, with emphasis on wireless and optical communications. Its aim is to strengthen relations between the telecommunication industry, research laboratories, and universities.

WOC 2007 is sponsored by the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED), with the assistance of the Technical Committee on Telecommunications.

Conference Chair

Dr. Alex Vukovic is currently at the Communications Research Centre Canada in Ottawa, Canada. His focus is on research leadership on network concepts and building blocks for next generation communication networks.




Keynote Speakers

Chunming Qiao is a professor at SUNY at Buffalo, USA. Dr. Qiao's research has been sponsored by U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), Alcatel Corporate Research Center, Nokia Research Center, Nortel Networks, Telcordia (formerly known as Bellcore), and Industrial Technology Research Institute (Taiwan).


Steve Beaudin of Nortel Canada will also be a Keynote Speaker for WOC 2007.

Workshop/ Special Session

"Wireless Communications in Medical Applications" is organized by:

  • Hesham Ali a Professor of Computer Science and Associate Dean of the College of Information Science & Technology at University of Nebraska at Omaha.

  • Jong-Hoon Youn an Assistant Professor in the Computer Science department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

  • Steven Hinrichs an Associate Professor of Pathology/Microbiology and Director of the University of Nebraska Center for Biosecurity at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.


  • "Advances in Wireless Mesh Networks" is organized by:

  • Ming Li an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at California State University, USA. His research interest includes QoS strategies for mobile ad-hoc networks, wireless mesh networks, and multimedia streaming over wireless networks.
