TUTORIAL SESSION

Energy Storage for High Reliability and Distributed Generation Applications

Dr. Anibal de Almeida
University of Coimbra, Portugal
adealmeida@isr.uc.pt

Abstract

The tutorial will cover the key concepts related with energy storage, namely the energy density, power density, charging time, efficiency, charge retention, cycling, and the different time scales of energy storage. The evolution of the energy storage requirements to improve load factor and continuous power feeding, including for ride-through capability, transportation and integration of intermittent distributed generation, are presented.

The key aspects of relevant energy storage technologies (electrochemical, electrical, mechanical, thermal and hydrogen based) will be discussed.
