SPECIAL SESSION

Robotic Applications and Control System Technologies

Dr. Mojtaba Ahmadi
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
Carleton University, Canada

Abstract

The advancement of robotic technologies has given rise to several new applications with examples in aerospace, medical, locomotion, and mining areas amongst many others. Scientists and engineers need to respond to new design, analysis, control, and mechatronics problems posed by these applications. This special session invites researchers exploring new applications of robotics, with particular interest in mechatronic design and control strategies, to submit their papers for consideration. While it is required to have an application associated with the research being reported, there is no restriction on the type of application as long as the entry covers the mechatronic design or control of the robotic system. Scientists from private or governmental robotic research labs working on new applications are also encouraged to submit or participate in this session. This session is also an opportunity for local and international academic and industrial researchers with interest in robot control to meet and network to develop collaborative research relationships.

Biography of the Presenter

Dr. Ahmadi, a 1998 graduate from the Centre for Intelligent Machines of McGill University, works with various private companies, government research labs, and academics. He has been developing and conducting research on robotic systems design, control design and architectures, and software development for robotics. He has developed legged robots and has been a key designer of the NRC's 8-DOF robot for the Captive Trajectory Simulation (CTS) system for use in a supersonic wind tunnel. Dr. Ahmadi's areas of interest are in legged robotic locomotion, robotic rehabilitation, robot manipulators design and control, nonlinear control, and mechatronics.

Please email all submisssions to mahmadi@mae.carleton.ca by February 10, 2008.

Please send a short email to inform the session organizer about your firm intention of submission and a paragraph summary of your work as soon as possible. Full papers should be submitted directly to the session organizer through email by February 10, 2008. The papers should be prepared in accordance with the conference guidelines for submissions.
