Pericle Zanchetta received his degree in Electronic Engineering and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Technical University of Bari (Italy) in 1994 and 1998 respectively. In 1998 he became Assistant Professor of Power Electronics at the same University. In 2001 he became lecturer in control of power electronics systems in the PEMC research group at the University of Nottingham – UK, where he is now Associate Professor in Control of Power Electronics systems.
He teaches a 20 credit module “Advanced Control Systems Design” for MSc and MEng students in electrical and electronic engineering subjects, and a 10 credit module “Control systems” for Beng, MEng and MSc students in electrical and electronic engineering subjects. Since 2008 he teaches as visiting professor a 10 hours module “Control of Power Electronics Systems” at the University of Rome Tor Vergata – Italy. He has been visiting professor at the Technical University Federico Santa Maria, Valparaiso, Chile in 2010 and 2011 and at the Italian Research Council in Palermo in 2012. He has given a number of invited talks and tutorials at conferences, workshops and Universities on Heuristic optimization strategies, Predictive control and ripetitive control applied to power electronics systems, has published over 30 journal papers and over 140 refereed conference papers.
Over the past years he has supervised over 30 Ph.D research students in control and power electronics, 8 Research fellows and a large number of visiting scholars. He is principal investigator and co-investigator of a large number of research grants in control and power electronics.
He is Secretary and European Liaison officer of the IEEE IAS Industrial Power Converters Committee IPCC; he is Associate Editor for IEEE transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE transactions on Industrial Informatics. He has been Guest editor of the IEEE transactions on Industrial Electronics, Special Section on “Optimization in Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives” (2010-2011) and Guest editor of the IEEE transactions on Industrial Informatics, Special Section on “Digital control in Power Electronics and Drives” (2011-2012). He is Vice-Chair of the IEEE ECCE conference. He is Member of the IEEE: Industrial Electronics Society, Power Electronic Society and Industry Application Society.
His main research interests are in the field of advanced control of power converters, model predictive control, repetitive control, power quality and active filters, design and system identification using heuristic optimization Algorithms.
