Professor Howard Williams has a PhD in ionospheric physics and a DSc in Computer Science. He has held a chair in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh since 1980. For most of this period he has been head of the DB, Info. and KB Systems research group. His current research interest is in the area of personalisation, especially relating to ubiquitous or pervasive systems.
