James E. Oliff has served as vice chairman of the boards of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Holdings and CME since April 2002, as a director of CME since 1994, and has been a member of the exchange for more than 25 years. Mr. Oliff served as second vice chairman of CME Holdings' board from its formation on August 2, 2001 until April 2002 and of CME's board from 1998 until April 2002. He previously served on CME's board from 1982 to 1992.
Mr. Oliff serves as a member of the board of directors of FFastFill plc., a company that provides trading and risk management network and software solutions, since December 2001. He previously served as executive director of International Futures and Options Associates.
Mr. Oliff serves as a trustee of the CME Trust and as chairman of GFX, a CME foreign exchange subsidiary.
Mr. Oliff was chairman of CME's strategic planning committee, where he led CME's intensive efforts in 1998 to forge a strategic plan in the face of dramatic industry changes – ultimately resulting in the exchange's demutualization. He currently chairs the clearing house committee as well as CME's electronic transition committee, which was chartered to assist floor brokers and floor traders in transitioning to electronic trading and to design programs to maintain and enhance CME's strategic assets of liquidity and execution service.
Mr. Oliff is responsible for the development of the exchange's ethics program, the first exchange program required by both members and employees in the futures industry. He has spoken on the subject of rule enforcement and professional responsibility in numerous forums and is a member of the advisory board of the M.S. degree in financial engineering program at Kent State University.
Mr. Oliff, an attorney, has been involved in the futures industry for 30 years. He has experience in back-office and trading floor operations, and service as an account executive. He holds a B.A. degree from Brandeis University and J.D. degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
A resident of the Chicago area, Mr. Oliff is married with three children.
