Prof. Qiang Shen is the Director of Research with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth UK, and an Honorary Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, UK. He is an internationally recognised expert in the field of explicit knowledge formulation and refinement, and in that of qualitative, uncertain and/or flexible reasoning and decision-making. Prof. Shen has given many invited talks at international conferences and workshops, and guest lectures at established research institutions. He has served as the principal supervisor for many post-doctoral research associates and PhD students (including one who won a prestigious BCS/CPHC Distinguished Dissertation Award, aka. the Best Computer Science PhD Dissertation Award in the U.K.). Prof. Shen has published over 160 peer-refereed articles in academic journals and conference proceedings within the areas of artificial intelligence and soft computing. He has chaired/co-chaired several major (national and international) conferences in his research field, and he is an associate editor/editorial board member of several foremost academic journals, including the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems, the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics (Part B), and the Fuzzy Sets and Systems journal.
