Erol Gelenbe is the Professor in the Dennis Gabor Chair at Imperial College. A native of Turkey, he graduated from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. His research has addressed different facets of probabilistic models in the computer and information sciences, ranging from automata theory, computer system performance evaluation, databases, neural networks, queueing theory, and computer network protocols. He is a Fellow of IEEE, ACM, and the IEE, and also a Member of Academia Europaea. He has been awarded honorary doctorates and scientific prizes in Belgium, Italy, and Turkey, and has received government honours from France and Italy.
