IASTED's Mini Run/Walk Marathon

Every year Kailua-Kona is host to one of the most honoured and prestigious triathlon events in the world, the Hawaiian Ironman. Many consider this to be the most arduous and demanding competitive sporting events. The race encompasses three endurance events; a 2.4 mile (3.8 km) ocean swim in Kailua-Kona Bay, a 112 mile (180 km) bike ride across the Hawaiian lava desert to Hawi and back, and a marathon (26.2 mile, 42 km) along the coast of the Big Island (from Keauhou to Keahole Point to Kailua-Kona); finishing on Ali'i Drive.

While many of us may not be ready to compete in the Hawaiian Ironman any time soon, something of a smaller scale may be more realistic. IASTED is looking to organize a mini run/walk marathon for all the participants in SIP 2008, IMSA 2008, and CS 2008. Participants can choose to either walk a 2km route or run a 4 km route and the top winners will be awarded a prize at the conference's dinner banquet. The race will take place at 7:00am on Tuesday morning, so as not to interfere with the conference sessions and also help to avoid the Hawaiian mid-day heat. If you would like to participate please meet at the parking lot in front of the Convention Center Foyer.
