Dr Ian Moffatt is the Director of the Sustainable Development programme at the University of Stirling, Scotland. He has a BSc degree from London University and MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne. He was a Senior Research Fellow at the Australian National University, 1990-1993 and was part of the Northern Territory, Australia Greenhouse Committee. His research is focussed on modelling and measuring sustainable development. He has been adviser for the UK Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, and, more recently, a chairman of an international review body for the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), which explores the methodology and the use of the ecological footprint. He has published over 100 papers as well as six books, including two on sustainable development.
