Anet Potgieter holds a PhD in computer science. She is a director of Complex Adaptive Systems (Pty.) Ltd. and has 20 years of industry experience with software engineering and artificial intelligence projects for various companies in South Africa. These systems include a helicopter health monitoring system, various intelligent image understanding research projects, and an industrial process control system. She is a senior lecturer and heads the Agents Research Lab in the Computer Science Department at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, which focuses on research in collective intelligence and distributed cognition. Her research activities include Complex Adaptive Systems, Software Engineering, the Engineering of Emergence, Distributed Intelligence, Bayesian Networks, and Dynamic Social Networks.
