Call for Papers

The international conference on Information Technology, Democracy and Economic Development is a one-day program to be held on Monday July 11, 2011 at the Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge, UK. This event, sponsored by the International Association of Science and Technology for Development (IASTED), will bring together leading academics, researchers, and professionals to evaluate the influence of information technology and democracy on economic development. Speakers and panels will examine the different aspects of information technology and democracy that drive or impede economic development. This conference will offer a platform for the expression of diverse perspectives that will serve to advance our understanding of the pivotal roles that information technology and democracy play in driving economic development.

The scope of this conference includes social change, liberation, freedom of access to information, social media, democracy, digital divide, democratic development/democratization, mass mobilization through use of social media networks, public participation in democratic/economic change, the importance of democracy for economic development, democratization of media, and the role of information technology in economic change.

Location

Cambridge is a city where the modern and medieval meet. Located just north of London, it is home to the historical Cambridge University where top scholars and researchers convene. Do not be fooled by Cambridge's academic image, however, for it is brimming with local entertainment, restaurants, pubs, and shopping centres just waiting to be discovered against the backdrop of cobblestone streets. Try checking out one of Cambridge's many festivals or swing by a European market. Take some time on the slow side and stop by one of the local cafes for a bite to eat, something delicious to drink, or a chance to chat. If you are looking for a different type of tour, try "punting" down the river to see Cambridge from a different perspective. Those brave enough can book a tour to see some of the spookiest places located in Cambridge. No matter what you choose to do, Cambridge is a thriving city with something for everyone.
