Dr. Bernhard G. Zagar was born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1957. He received his Diploma degree and his PhD in electrical engineering from the Technical University of Graz, Austria, in 1983 and 1988, respectively. He also earned his M.S. degree in computer science from the University of California, Davis, in 1988. In November 1983, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Technical University of Graz, where he was Associate Professor of electrical measurement and instrumentation until 2001. From 1986 to 1987, he was a research assistant, and in 1994, a research associate at the University of California at Davis in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. From 1998 to 2000 he was Full Professor for electrical measurement technology at the Department of Microsystems Engineering of the University of Freiburg, Germany. In July 2001, he was appointed Full Professor of measurement technology at the Johannes Kepler University of Linz, Austria. His research interests include digital signal and image processing, applications of lasers for non-contacting measurements and measurement technology, and sensors in general.
