Dr. Julia M. Matuga received her Ph.D. degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Learning, Cognition, and Instruction from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1999. Dr. Matuga is currently an associate professor of educational psychology at Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio, USA). From 2006-2010, Dr. Matuga was the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies and External Programs at BGSU. In 2010, she became the Associate Dean of Assessment, Research, and Technology in the College of Education and Human Development at BGSU.
A former K-12 art teacher, her early research interest focused on Vygotskian theory and the development and use of private speech by young children during creative tasks. As a graduate student at Indiana University, Dr. Matuga taught her first online course and became interested in the self-regulation of learning within online learning environments. She has created technology features for a textbook, published and presented on the topic of self-regulation and online learning, obtained training and research grants to support the development and teaching of online courses, serves as a Quality Matter reviewer and member of the Ohio Quality Matters consortium, and recently served as the Managing Editor of the Mid-Western Educational Researcher (2007-2010).
