Christian Baumgartner is Professor of Electrical and Biomedical Engineering at the University for Health Sciences, Medical Informatics and Technology (UMIT), Hall in Tyrol, Austria. He received his MSc (1994) and PhD degrees (1998) from Graz University of Technology, Austria, his habilitation degree in Biomedical Engineering at UMIT (2006), and was appointed Associate Professor at UMIT in 2007. From 1998-2002 Dr. Baumgartner was an R&D engineer at Tecan.com, where he developed confocal fluorescence laser scanning systems for DNA micro arrays. Five years later, from 2007-2008, he joined the Barnett Institute of Chemical and Biological Analysis, Northeastern University and Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, where Dr. Baumgartner worked in the field of bioinformatics for biomarker discovery. After his return to UMIT, he was the interim Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and in September 2009, he was appointed Professor, Director of the Institute of Electrical, Electronic and Bioengineering, and Deputy Chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Engineering at UMIT. Dr. Baumgartner is the author of more than 70 publications in refereed journals, books, conference proceedings, and patent applications, and is a reviewer for more than 20 scientific journals, conferences, and book and grant proposals. He also serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Bioinformatics and as program committee member of international conferences. His main research interests include clinical bioinformatics, data mining, computational biology, biosensors and biomedical signal processing, biomechatronics.
