Abstract

The world needs new forms of energy to address environmental issues today and energy demand tomorrow. As we are aggressively pursuing renewable integration, our power grid is becoming less stable. In this speech, Dr. Keyue Smedley will discuss how to stabilize the grid and boost renewables.

Dr. Keyue Smedley obtained her Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology in 1991. She is currently an IEEE Fellow and a full professor at the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Smedley's invention, the One-Cycle Control, has found wide applications in renewables, energy storage, and grid support. Her work has resulted in more than 200 publications, the UCI Innovation Award in 2005, and the Pentagon Achievement Award in 2010.
