OPTIONAL EVENING TOUR
~ MEDIEVAL CITY OF RHODES ~

Our evening excursion begins with a panoramic drive over the Monte Smith Hill, as we climb through this famed hillside, a quick glance out the window will show off the historic wonders of the Rhodes Acropolis and the Ancient Stadium. Once we arrive at the D’Amboise Gate of the Medieval City, visitors can explore the Palace of the Grand Master and take the time to enjoy every detail of this inspiring monument. Now popularly referred to as the Castello, this stunning fortress was originally built by the Knights of St John of Jerusalem in the 14th century. Throughout its long history, the Castello has been home to many ruling powers, and despite being largely destroyed in 1856 by an explosion and reconstructed throughout the 1930s, this important landmark still holds much of its original ancient charm.

Our tour will then continue down the Street of the Knights, this boulevard is the best-preserved thoroughfare from the 14th century period of the knights and has been essentially untouched for the last 500 years. Lined on both sides with the ‘Inns’ (headquarters) of various ‘Tongues’ (nationalities) of the Knight’s Order, this cobbled street is a fascinating view into this unique period of Greek history.

To finish off our evening, we will head down to the main square of the medieval city and enjoy a delicious feast of greek delicacies. Everything from traditional Greek Salad to Stifado (rabbit or beef slowly cooked in the oven with small onions) & Moussaka (minced meat, eggplant and bechamel sauce, baked in the oven) and delicious traditional honey and baklava desserts will be available to our guests. Once we’re completely stuffed and ready to head back to the hotel, our private coach will take us back to enjoy another summer evening on this enchanting Greek isle.

Tour Price: €65/$80 includes transportation, an English speaking guide, entry fees to the Grand Masters Palace, and dinner at Archipelagos Restaurant.
