Prof. Caro Lucas
IASTED would like to express its deepest condolences to the family, colleagues,
peers, and students of Prof. Caro Lucas who passed away on July 8, 2010. He
was a leading scientist who not only pushed the boundaries of discovery and
education but encouraged the community around him to do the same.
Prof.
Caro Lucas received his M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Tehran University,
Tehran, in 1973 and his Ph.D. in Control and Systems Engineering from the Department
of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences with a minor in Finance and
Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley, USA in 1976. Prof. Lucas
supervised over 100 dissertations, published over 400 papers in various journals
and conferences, given over 100 invited lectures, and founded new M.S. and/or
Ph.D. programs in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Medical Engineering.
Prof. Caro Lucas was a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Tehran University, Iran.
His many achievements and honours
include acting as Director for the Center of Excellence for Control and Intelligent
Processing, Tehran University, and serving as a member of many journal editorial
boards and international program committees. He was also inducted into the Iranian
Science and Culture Hall of Fame in 2006.
Prof. Caro Lucas has been
a close colleague for many years and has been collaborating with IASTED since
1983. During this time, he has participated in many and contributed to over
25 IASTED conferences. In addition, he Chaired and organized the IASTED International
Conference on Control and Modelling held in Tehran in 1990. He will always be
remembered for his cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and hard-work.

and dedication. He will be greatly missed by the academic and scientific community.
